Strategic collaboration between GDI and EUCAIM
The European Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI) project and the European Federation for Cancer Images (EUCAIM) have formally announced a strategic collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding. Both EU projects share a commitment to enabling cross-border data access and analysis, fostering the development of machine learning and AI models for personalised medicine applications.
The GDI project, funded by the Digital Europe Programme and participating countries, aims to establish the data infrastructure for realising the 1+ Million Genomes (1+MG) initiative to accelerate the deployment of genomic medicine at the European level, supporting the development of personalised prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
EUCAIM, part of the Digital Europe Programme with 76 partner organisations, contributes to deploying a pan-European digital federated infrastructure for Finable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) cancer-related de-identified images from healthcare settings.
GDI and EUCAIM have been collaborating from the start of both projects, addressing areas such as governance, ethical, legal and social Issues (ELSI), technical infrastructure and use cases. The two projects share knowledge and expertise and have collaboratively developed technical demonstrators to provide services across both infrastructures.
The Memorandum of Understanding reinforces the collaboration between GDI and EUCAIM and identifies common interest areas for exploration, including knowledge sharing, strategic communication, innovative solutions for common challenges, infrastructure services, ELSI, research data management, training, capacity building and sustainability of the infrastructures.
GDI and EUCAIM look forward to maintaining and expanding the existing collaboration to achieve cross-border data access and accelerate progress in machine learning and AI models in healthcare.
About GDI
The European Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI) project - co-funded by the European Union’s Digital Europe Programme (101081813) - is enabling access to genomic and related phenotypic and clinical data across Europe. It is doing this by establishing a federated, sustainable and secure infrastructure to access the data. It builds on the outputs of the Beyond 1 Million Genomes (B1MG) project and is realising the ambition of the 1+Million Genomes (1+MG) initiative. https://gdi.onemilliongenomes.eu
About EUCAIM
The European Federation for Cancer Images (EUCAIM) is the cornerstone of the European Commission-initiated European Cancer Imaging Initiative, a flagship of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan (EBCP), which aims to foster innovation and deployment of digital technologies in cancer treatment and care to achieve more precise and faster clinical decision making, diagnostics, treatment and predictive medicine for cancer patients. EUCAIM's mission is to build a pan-European digital federated infrastructure of cancer-related images, which will be used for the development of AI tools toward Precision Medicine. https://cancerimage.eu
